HPC Agenda – 26th September 2017

The Haswells 2017 Flower & Harvest Festival begins this weekend at St Paul’s Church, Haswell Village.

Supported by Haswell Parish Council, events are taking place all over the weekend, culminating in a Harvest Supper on Monday 25th September 2017 with a special showing of ‘Fadge for Breakfast’ – a production from 1992 featuring people from The Haswells!

There is also a photography competition for people from The Haswells.

To take part, simply take a picture of what you think represents ‘The Haswells’.  Then email your entry to haswellparishcouncil@gmail.com

Entries will be displayed in St Paul’s Church during the festival events. Judging will take place on Monday 25th September 2017 by local artist Bob Ord, with the winners announced at that evening’s harvest supper event. Prizes awarded to best junior and best senior (16+) photographer.

This summer is full of excitement with events going on throughout the summer. Here is a list of events going on across the village:

ST. PAUL’S CHURCH

• Every Wednesday in school term-time Playtime at St Paul’s, Activities and refreshments for under 5s and their carers. 1.30-3pm
• Thursday 5th July 2017 St Paul’s Church Coffee morning with bacon sandwiches, home baking and produce for sale 10.15 am
• Saturday8th July 2017 Songs of St Paul’s – come and sing favourite hymns to celebrate 150 years of worship!  Free entry, light refreshments 7.00pm
• Sunday 16th July 2017 Messy Church at St Paul’s Worship, crafts and tea for all the family 3-5pm
• Saturday 29th July 2017 St Paul’s Summer Fair with 150th anniversary display and art exhibition, stalls, games and refreshments 11am-2pm
• Sunday 30th July 2017 St Paul’s Church 150th Anniversary Service with the Bishop of Jarrow and the Easington Deanery Choir, followed by tea 2.30pm
• Friday 22nd- Sunday 24th September 2017  St. Paul’s 150th anniversary Flower and Harvest Festival. If you would like to sponsor an arrangement to commemorate an event or a loved one, please contact the church.

A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for dog control comes into effect in County Durham from 1 June 2017. The Order allows new powers to replace and add to existing powers to enforce against irresponsible dog owners.

What does the PSPO mean for dog owners?

From 1 June 2017, it is an offence in County Durham if you:

• allow a dog to foul without picking it up (already an offence and continues under the PSPO)
• allow a dog to stray (ie allow a dog to wander/roam loose/exercise without a responsible owner)
• fail to put a dog on a lead when asked to do so by an authorised person (council staff, neighbourhood warden or Durham Constabulary police officer)
• allow dogs in designated fenced off fixed play areas (ie dogs are not allowed in specified areas where slides, swings and/or climbing equipment is contained by a fence). From, 1 June 2017, fenced off play sites affected by the PSPO will display a sign advising that dogs are not allowed in.
