Windsor Terrace Play Area
The Parish Council were delighted to officially open the new play area on Saturday 7th April 2018, which had been funded from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, LEADER funding along with funding from local County Councillors through their Neighbourhood Budgets.
The play area was opened by former County Councillor and former Chairman of Haswell Parish Council – Mr Alan Liversidge.
After an opening address by Haswell Parish Council Chairman Chris Hood, the park was blessed by the Vicar of St Paul’s Church, Rev. Anna Brooker, before the ribbon was cut by Mr Liversidge.
Haswell Parish Clerk Kay Tweddle then distributed the good bags provided by Wicksteed to all the children in attendance.
The Members Initiative Fund is an allocation of funds that is made to all elected Members of Durham County Council to support local new and additional community and voluntary projects in their area.
Haswell Parish Council would like to thank Mr Liversidge for committing his Members Initiative Fund (MIF) to the new play area project while he was a county councillor for our area, as well as County Councillor Eunice Huntington and the late Robin Todd MBE.

Ms Kay Tweddle, a parish clerk with 25 years experience and an extensive knowledge of local government, is now Parish Clerk for Haswell Parish Council.
Ms Tweddle previously worked for District of Easington Council and Trimdon Foundry Parish Council, and is also currently the Deputy Clerk at Peterlee Town Council.
Kay said at the news of her appointment:
“I’m very happy to be on board and delighted to have been appointed.”
“I’m ready to work with all of our partners to do our best for the residents and community of the Haswells.”
Chairman Cllr. Chris Hood commented:
“Ms Tweddle’s CV and experience speaks for itself, however it was her passion and desire to make a difference in The Haswells that made the panel want her as our new Parish Clerk.”
“She takes over at an exciting time for our villages, with a lot of plans in place for 2018, and we look forward to her guidance in helping us achieve our goals for The Haswells.”

Temporary Road Closure
C60 South View, Ludworth – Temporary Road Closure 02/07/17
The County Council intend to close to vehicular traffic from 7.00 am on Sunday 2 July 2017 a 710 metre length of South View, Ludworth between its junctions with C65 and the access to Ludworth Tower.
The closure, which is being effected by means of Notice under Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, is necessary to enable carriageway resurfacing works, which will probably take some 1 day (up to 7pm) to complete to be carried out to that length of road.
Throughout the period of closure an alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the eastern side of the closure from C65 north eastwards to the junction of B1283 then westwards to Sherburn Hill and turning southwards on C60 Crime Rigg Bank leading to Shadforth and the western side of the closure and vice versa.
New Playground Gets The Go Ahead
The Parish Council have been successful in securing funding which will see the total regeneration of the playground at Windsor Terrace. Wicksteed Leisure will commence work on the site in July 2017 and will complete the project in August 2017.
